Barcelona -- Microsoft and Vodafone
announced that they have
teamed up to offer a new portable e-mail service called Windows
Mobile E-mail, which will allow users to send and receive e-mails,
edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents and forward messages
sent to Microsoft Outlook accounts. With the announcement,
Microsoft has thrown down the gauntlet to Research In Motion
(RIM), the embattled Canadian company behind Blackberry (RIM
is currently fighting a patent dispute with software firm NTP and
facing a possible shutdown in the U.S.). Microsoft said Windows
Mobile E-mail would be available in France, Germany and the U.K
by March.
